We NEED your help to get pets to safety.

Now more than ever, your help matters. Recently, we had a spike in need with 35 pets entering care in just two weeks, maxing our capacity and placing eight pets on a waitlist. In an average month, we typically help 15 pets.

When pets don't have a safe temporary shelter while their families escape abuse, their only options are to stay with the abuser, be left behind or be seperated from their families. Every day families have to choose between their pet and their safety.

That is a choice no one should have to make. So we are turning to you and asking for help to get these pets off the waitlist.

Read more on Buddy's story:

Buddy arrived at Pet Refuge with many physical and medical ailments. Often pets who come from violence don’t have access to veterinary care, either as a result of financial abuse or because their wellbeing has been used as a means for coercion and control.

Buddy was covered in fleas, antagonising his underlying skin issues, he was unvaccinated and limping from an old injury to his hind leg. The Pet Refuge team and trusted Veterinarians immediately put a plan in place to get Buddy feeling like his best self again. An estimated 90% of pets we care for require medical treatment above and beyond a general health check.

Buddy was treated for fleas, bathed twice weekly, ointments applied routinely, and medications administered daily. He has also had surgery to repair his hind leg. The team stayed by his side, holding his paw through every moment

Pet Refuge not only shelters pets while their families escape violence but prioritises pet welfare too.

Our Safe Beds for Pets family of regular givers helps us provide everything pets like Buddy need from transport to food, enrichment, training veterinary care and a warm bed.

It’s amazing to have somewhere pets can go like Pet Refuge. Because that’s the heartbreaking thing. If it didn’t exist, I would have had to probably re-home him. And that would have been my worst nightmare.
