*Spud and *Chelsea
*Chelsea knew she had to leave her ex-partner - She refused to let her newborn child and fur-baby, *Spud, be in harm’s way any longer. Escaping domestic violence with a newborn is challenging enough let alone with a beloved pet in tow too.
"I was in a really, really bad relationship with my ex-partner. He got really dangerous, and he struggled with substances. Spud would protect me when I was pregnant. When I had arguments with him, *Spud would stay with me and comfort me in a way. He’s the smartest dog I've ever had. I knew we couldn’t stay any longer.”
Bianca spent weeks calling boarding kennels and other pet-friendly accommodations but with little to no finances of her own, she couldn’t afford to get Spud any care. Until she found Pet Refuge.
We provide temporary shelter and care for pets like Spud at no cost to their owner so that families can escape to safety without worrying about their pets. We care for pets until their families are back on their feet and they can be reunited again.
Letter from reunited families

"They’re not just cats. They’re our family.
That’s what made Pet Refuge so special – they understood that. They were a dedicated support for the pets. Once we got them into Pet Refuge, I felt like I could breathe again knowing they were safe, warm, and cared for. They even had their birthdays while they were there.
I’ll never forget the support Pet Refuge gave us. In the middle of so much chaos, they kept our cats safe so that our family could stay together" - *Maddy
