*Honey needs a Safe Bed
When *Honey’s family fled their home after a terrifying night of violence, she couldn’t go with them.
For months, violence inside Honey’s home had been escalating. Then one night, her human-mum’s ex-partner came into the bedroom and said, “I understand why husbands kill their wives.”
He put his hands around her throat.
“The look in his eyes terrified me. When he tried to drag me off the bed, I realised I would be in real trouble.”
He knew how much the family loved Honey. They feared he could hurt or threaten her to force them back — using their love for Honey to draw them straight back into danger.
“I felt like Honey was the most vulnerable.”
Her family was out, but Honey was still there — alone with someone they feared could harm her.

Pet Refuge is New Zealand’s only dedicated charity providing temporary shelter and care for pets while families escape family violence.
In just two weeks, 17 dogs entered our shelter, and right now, at least six more are on our waitlist. Every day a pet waits can mean another day left in a violent situation, at risk of harm.
We can create more safe spaces through trusted boarding partners, but we need support to fund them.
Give $30 a month to our Safe Beds for Pets programme and help provide nationwide transport, a safe bed, vet care, food and bespoke enrichment and training.
Please donate today and help get dogs like Honey off the waitlist and away from danger.
