Without you, pets like *Winnie won't get the chance to find safety.
When we read about family violence and pets in danger it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.
Where do you even start trying to change things?
Our answer is simple. One pet at a time.
Because for that pet, your caring means the world. It’s not just about giving them a safe bed, or nutritious food. It’s about giving pets and their families the chance to escape violence once and for all. To have safety, happiness and the confidence to live their best lives free from fear. And even the smallest veterinary treatment or take-home pack can make an immense impact on pets and families starting their new safe life together.
This is the beautiful result of our programmes. But to keep creating this change, we need you.

Read more on *Winnie's story:
For many victims of violence, their pet is their only confidant, protector, and their closest friend so it’s not surprising more than half will delay leaving abuse out of fear of what will happen to their fur-baby if left behind.
*Winnie was devoted to Anneka too and had been hurt in attempts to protect her from the violence. Winnie needed vet treatment, and they were both hungry and in need of shelter. With no hope in sight to be safe and together Anneka began to consider returning home. Until she heard about Pet Refuge.
Winnie is one of the many pets that join us with physical injuries. In fact, more than 90% of the pets we care for will require treatment beyond their initial health check. Winnie is currently on a recovery plan to heal his wounds and treat his pain. But we'd also like to help Anneka by covering his desexing operation once he's physically ready.
Critical care comes first, so we prioritise treating pain, injuries and urgent medical issues. But we know covering desexing saves our families significant future costs while they’re trying to rebuild their lives.
As animal lovers, we want to offer all Pet Refuge pets additional help to heal such as desexing, non-critical dental such as hygiene, or helpful extras take-home packs so families can focus on their excitement of having their pet home, not the logistics – But these come with additional costs.
Donate today so we can give pets like Winnie have the best chance at a new, safe future.

Why monthly donation?
What matters for us and the pets we help is security. But currently, regular donations only cover 60% of our program costs, making it ever more challenging to sustain our care and provide safety and reach more pets and families trying to escape violence.
By signing up for a regular plan you give us the security to say 'yes' to every pet that needs our help.
Knowing you have our back, every month, means we can have theirs. No matter the time or day.
Where does the money go?
When you sign-up for a monthly gift, 100% of your donation goes directly towards the care of pets and our program costs. This includes transport pets across the country to safety, enrichment, and training to help pets who have experienced trauma, veterinary care to help them heal and transporting pets back to their families once it is safe to do so.
With a monthly donation of $25 we can give a pet their first night of safety, free from abuse. Providing families with peace of mind and the chance to start anew.
I am amazed at the level of care and attention you (Pet Refuge) gave to my babies whilst in your care. From feeding and grooming to playtime and exercise, I can tell that my babies were well taken care of. Your shelter truly makes a difference in the lives of pets and their owners.
