Yes, Pet Refuge New Zealand Charitable Trust registered with the NZ Charities Service which means you'll receive a tax receipt for any donations over $5. Our registration number is CC53408.
Most of the mandatory details we collect are in the interest of an easy, streamlined receipting process. Other ‘optional’ fields give us an opportunity to understand our supporters better. If you'd prefer to make a bank deposit, please see the FAQ above or email us at info@petrefuge.org.nz so we can provide our bank details and a reference to ensure you get a tax receipt.
In just two weeks, 17 dogs came into Pet Refuge care needing safety from family violence. Now, at least six more dogs are on our waitlist, urgently needing a safe bed.
For these dogs, waiting isn't simply waiting for a bed.
It can mean another night in a home affected by violence. Another day at risk of being threatened, hurt or used as a way to control the person they love. And for their families, it can mean facing an impossible choice between getting themselves to safety and leaving their beloved pet behind.
We need your help to get them off the waitlist and away from danger.
Regular monthly support gives us the funding to create more safe spaces through our trusted boarding partners, increasing our capacity to get more pets off the waitlist and into safety.

For dogs affected by family violence, the need for safety can be desperate. Monty, Honey and Otis each have a different story of violence, fear and trauma.
Their stories show what can be at stake for a pet when there is nowhere safe for them to go — and why your support is urgently needed to help dogs facing situations like theirs get away from danger and into the safety, love and expert care they need.
*Monty
One day, *Monty was surrounded by the children he loved. The next, he was left tied up outside. When violence became life-threatening, his human-mum fled with her children. With nowhere safe for Monty to go, he was left behind — tied outside without regular meals. A Safe Bed means pets like Monty don't have to be left behind.

When Honey's family fled after a terrifying night of violence, she couldn't go with them. Honey was left behind with the person they were escaping from — someone who knew how deeply they loved her. Her family feared he could hurt or threaten Honey to draw them back into danger. A Safe Bed can remove a pet from an abuser's reach.

When Otis arrived at Pet Refuge, he curled himself into a corner and shook. He was frightened, crying out and wouldn't take food. The violence and fear he had lived through had left this once people-friendly dog overwhelmed and deeply unsure of the people around him. A Safe Bed gives traumatised pets somewhere they can begin to feel safe again.
